Sinus Surgery Instructions








PREOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Arrive 90 minutes prior to your surgery time.
  • Night prior to your surgery, adult shouldn’t eat or drink after midnight.
  • But toddlers and Infant may take liquids 6 hours before the Surgery time.
  • Avoid taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), aspirin or products that contain medications within 7 days of the Surgery time.

POSTOPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS:
  • Pain from sinus surgery feels like an acute sinus infection. It usually stays about one week. If possible, take day off from work or school for 7 days.
  •  Bloody drainage will be noted approximately two weeks after surgery,
  • Swelling and rarely bruising can be seen around the eyes. Call if obvious swelling of the eyelids occurs.
  •  Large crusts can come from the nose for 3-4 weeks after surgery.
  •  After surgery antibiotics are rarely required and are not prescribed.
  • Even after complete healed, you need to be seen in office every two weeks for cleaning the sinus cavities, so that it decreases the chance of acute infection postoperatively.
