What are the risks of thyroid surgery?

There are actually risks and advantages linked with any therapy. Basic risks of surgery include internal bleeding, infections, and issue related to patient's other health problems (such as cardiovascular disease, breathing problems like asthma or COPD etc.)

Apart from the normal risks of any surgical treatment, there are actually 2 major risks associated with thyroid surgery, and all of these are fortunately uncommon.

- Destruction of the parathyroid glands
- Destruction of the recurrent laryngeal nerves.

If you feel nervous or jittery or if your muscles start twitching then Contact Mile High Otolaryngology right away because these are signs of low calcium.
